Reboot the computer

If you feel your computer is slow, whatever the reason might be. The first and foremost way to fix a slow computer is to reboot or restart your computer.

Every computer with an operating system has allocated space in RAM specifically for the programs. When you run a program, it gets stored in RAM temporarily for better performance. Gradually, your RAM space gets filled up, which will result in a slow computer. This happens because after RAM gets filled up, it starts using the swap file.

Now, if you don’t have any idea about swap files. Allow me to describe what this means. The swap file is a file present on the disk drive and is used for program data that is running at present. Usually, RAM is supposed to do this work. Since it is full, the swap file has to do the task.

So, to overcome this problem, you have to restart the computer. Restarting your computer makes sure that no programs are running in the background. Additionally, restarting your computer will allow windows updates to be installed. Moreover, if any bugs are present, they also get fixed.

Uninstall the programs which you don’t use.

A PC always has programs installed in them which are not used very often. Eventually, they occupy space. Additionally, they run in the background without letting you know. This results in the computer running slow.

To uninstall the programs you no longer need, click on the start button and click on the control button. You will find Programs and Features, click on it. Lists of programs will be in front of you. You simply have to click on the program you want to uninstall and then click on the Uninstall button.

Be careful about the programs you are going to uninstall because you might end up uninstalling the program you actually need for the computer’s smooth running. Instead of fixing a slow computer, you will end up with your computer running slow.

Delete Temporary Files

Temporary files get stored on the computer hard drive whenever you run a program on your computer. Deleting them could improve the speed of the computer and boost performance.

For cleaning temp files, there are various methods involved. One of the ways could be using Windows Disk Cleanup Utility. However, Disk CleanUp could not delete every temp file present in the temp directory. It is advisable to delete the temp files manually.

For deleting temporary files of windows OS manually, you have to carry out the following steps:

  1. open the search bar of windows or press windows key + R.
  2. Type %temp% in the search bar or run field.
  3. Press enter
  4. The folder containing all temp files open. Select all files and delete them. Skip for those files which are currently in use.

Another common reason for your computer to run slow could be due to many programs starting at once. This could happen if you keep too many applications in the system tray like Bluetooth, wireless connection, and more. They tend to run simultaneously with windows starting up. Thus, ending up slowing your computer.

It is very simple to fix a slow computer, with lots of applications in the system tray. All you have to do is close the programs present in the system tray and remove those programs that are not used frequently.
